Here are the top three stories today in Phoenix:
- The Phoenix Century Library will be closed on Monday, Aug. 22 for maintenance. The library will reopen on Monday, Oct. 3. The library's book drop will not be operating during the closure. Click for a list of available library locations. (Daily Independent)
- A Phoenix monsoon storm caused flight delays on Thursday morning. The Sky Harbor International Airport flights were grounded due to power outages. According to Southwest Airlines, a generator was struck by lightning during the storm. Almost 6,000 Phoenix residents were without power on Thursday morning. (Arizona Daily Sun)
- Phoenix Mercury's Brittney Griner has been sentenced to nine years in a Russian prison. Griner was convicted on drug charges for bringing vape canisters containing hashish oil into the country. President Biden denounced the verdict on Thursday. The U.S. will reportedly continue to work on bringing Griner back. (Phoenix Patch)
