Here are the top 3 stories today in Phoenix:

  1. Builders broke ground on Central Station downtown Thursday. The one-million-square-foot mixed-use development will include two residential towers and more than 30,000 square feet of retail space. The hub, located near Civic Space Park, is expected to open in 2024. (AZ Big Media)
  2. An SRP worker saved two dogs stuck in a Phoenix canal system last Thursday. 62-year-old Zanjero Ruben Cecena spotted the trapped Labradors behind a lateral grate near 27th Avenue and Elliot Road and immediately sprung into action, pulling both dogs to safety. According to a representative from the SRP, the dogs fled to a nearby field and were not spotted again. (ABC15 Arizona in Phoenix)
