Here are the top three stories in Phoenix today:
- On Wednesday, the Phoenix City Council unanimously voted to approve up to $12 million in federal funds to buy a former Kmart at I-17 and Northern Avenue. The funds will be used to transform the building into a new center offering education and workforce training. Phoenix plans to work with the Maricopa County Community College District, Western Maricopa Education Center (West-MEC), and Arizona State University to offer training, reskilling, and career alternatives for the city's residents. (KJZZ)
- Phoenix Suns star Devin Booker could miss up to three weeks of play due to an injury, according to a recent report. The 25-year-old Suns guard was injured in the third quarter of Tuesday's game and was seen grabbing at his right hamstring. An MRI from Wednesday confirmed Booker is suffering from a Grade 1 "mild" hamstring strain, putting him out of commission for two to three weeks. (Phoenix Patch)
- If you're headed to the airport, downtown, or the West Valley this weekend, be prepared for more Interstate-10 closures. According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, I-10 East will be closed between the Highway 51 and the 202 Loop mini-stack and Highway 143 from 10 p.m. tonight to 4 a.m. Monday. Meanwhile, during the same time period, I-10 West will be closed between Highway 143 and the I-17 split interchange near the airport. Click for additional details on the closures. (Phoenix Patch)
