Here are the top three stories in Phoenix today:
- Students at a Phoenix elementary school will receive college scholarships, thanks to a local organization. Officials with the Rosztoczy Foundation have announced they will offer "College Promise Scholarships" to the entire third-grade class at Bernard Black Elementary School, according to the Roosevelt School District Facebook page. Over one-quarter of students in the district live with families with income below the poverty level, with nearly thirty percent of families on food stamps. (FOX 10 News Phoenix)
- Two Valley girls have raised thousands of dollars for a toddler diagnosed with cancer. Tatum Pillor and Maisie Gerken launched a lemonade stand after learning that two-year-old Ellie, a family friend, was diagnosed with a rare childhood cancer. The girls shattered their original goal, with the Lemonade4Ellie campaign raising about $20,000, thanks to the support of their loved ones and the community. (Arizona's Family)
- A 76-year-old man was fatally struck in a hit-and-run on Monday night as he attempted to cross Glendale Road. The man, Carlos Gonzales, was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at an area hospital. Phoenix police did not have any suspects in custody as of Tuesday. (Phoenix Patch)
