Dark Window Tint Leads To Heroin Bust In Florence: Report

The K9 unit pulled a car over to issue a warning for dark windows. A huge heroin bust was the result.

FLORENCE, AZ — Two Arizona women are facing charges after a traffic stop for tinted windows became a drug bust, according to reports. Araceli Gonzalez, 29, of Tucson, and Danett Ruiz, 29, of Nogales, were pulled over around 7 p.m. on Friday, June 1 by a Pinal County Sheriff's deputy.

The initial stop was over the 2015 Chrysler's overly dark window tinting. The sheriff's office said there were inconsistencies during the stop, Tucson News Reported, so the deputy ended up searching the vehicle. That's the deputy and his K9 partner found a more than two-pound stash of heroin.

The heroin was wrapped in pink bubble wrap, according to Tucson News Now, and the deputies found over $6,000 in cash.

Sheriff Mark Lamb said in a release that the deputy, patrolling I-10, simply meant to write the driver a warning for the tint, but "thanks to his training, he was able to prevent heroin from making it further into our state and community." Lamb noted the need to cut both supply and demand for the deadly drug.

Ruiz and Gonzalez were booked at the Pinal County jail in Florence, Pinal Central reports, on charges of possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics for sale and transportation of narcotics for sale.
