Diamondbacks' First Round Pick Pays Off Parents' Mortgage
Pavin Smith surprised his parents at Christmas by paying off the home in which they raised him.

Pavin Smith may not yet be in the major leagues but for Christmas he certainly hit a big league home run. The 21-year-old, first-round draft pick of the Arizona Diamondbacks paid off the mortgage on his parents' home in Jupiter, FL.
"Thank you for everything you have done for me!" he wrote on Twitter. "This doesn’t make up for any of it."
Smith wrote them a letter and then posted video of his parents reading it.

"Thank you for raising me in a great home filled with love," Smith's mother read. "Because of all the sacrifices you made to get me where I am, I want our family home to be yours."
Smith, a first baseman who played ball for the University of Virginia, was the seventh pick overall in the 2017 draft.

After signing in June, he received a $5 million signing bonus.
He played his first professional ball this past summer for the Diamondbacks' minor league affiliate, the Hillsboro, OR-based Hillsboro Hops.
He had 27 RBIs and hit .318. in 42 games for the Hops.
