Family Promise of Greater Phoenix Awarded $10,000 Donation through Liberty Mutual® and Safeco Insurance® Emergency Community Support Grants
Companies Assist General Southwest Insurance Agency in Giving Back to Local Communities During COVID-19 Crisis
PHOENIX, AZ (MAY 22, 2020) – Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance announce a $10,000 donation to Family Promise of Greater Phoenix – nominated by Dave Binsfeld of General Southwest Insurance Agency – as part of an Emergency Community Support Grant to help independent agents give back to their local community during the COVID-19 crisis. The donation will go directly to Family Promise of Greater Phoenix, a nonprofit organization dedicated to reduce family homelessness in Greater Phoenix by empowering a network of interfaith volunteers and community services to provide shelter, compassion, assistance and life skills training to return families to self-sufficiency and sustainable housing.

“My team and I have recognized the hard work and dedication performed by Family Promise of Greater Phoenix during this pandemic and we are incredibly thankful for Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance for stepping up to the plate and providing extra funds to help the community when we need it most,” said Dave Binsfeld with General Southwest Insurance Agency. “Family Promise of Greater Phoenix has been significantly impacted by the COVID-19 crisis and the $10,000 donation will help them continue to make a difference in the community they serve.”
It is anticipated that homelessness amongst local families will increase due to the economic hardships, and Family Promise is highly effective in moving families from homelessness to self-sustainability. In addition, due to schools being closed, Family Promise is now providing daycare for children who would normally be in school so parents can do the things needed to achieve sustainability. The $10,000 donation will be used to help fund the daycare. Interestingly, Family Promise Phoenix was also the first shelter in the United States that could accommodate family dogs and cats so that the family doesn't have to give up their beloved pet to enter the shelter.

“With the coronavirus pandemic, we have had to abandon our community-based model and shelter the families we are serving in emergency shelters at our day centers,” said Ted Taylor, Executive Director of Family Promise of Greater Phoenix. “We are so thankful to General Southwest Insurance, Liberty Mutual, and Safeco Insurance for their contributions that help support our families during this challenging time.”
Currently, Family Promise of Greater Phoenix is sheltering more than a dozen families at their day center in south Scottsdale and relies on its volunteer network to provide meals to the families.
“The goal of the Emergency Community Support Grants is to help our independent agents make an immediate impact during this critical time in the local communities where we live and work,” said Alexis Holzer, Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance Independent Agent Giving Program Manager.
The Phoenix community can get involved and give back to Family Promise of Greater Phoenix by giving cash donations and assisting with donations of personal hygiene products, baby formula, new twin sheet sets and blankets, diapers sizes 3 through 6 and more.
