FSL Receives $10,000 Grant from Delta Dental of Arizona Foundation

FSL (Foundation for Senior Living) has been selected for a $10,000 grant by the Delta Dental of Arizona Foundation to support its nutrition programs, providing critical meals to families, seniors, and adults with disabilities across Maricopa County. The funding will help sustain FSL’s congregate meal programs, home-delivered meals, emergency food boxes, and nutrition education initiatives—ensuring access to healthy, balanced meals for those facing food insecurity.

Food insecurity remains a significant challenge for Arizona’s aging population. In 2022, Feeding America found that 12 percent of Maricopa County, or 530,930 individuals, were facing food insecurity and lacked access to proper, nutritious meals. For seniors, this can mean choosing between buying groceries or affording medication, as financial, transportation, and mobility barriers make accessing nutritious meals increasingly difficult.

“We are incredibly grateful for Delta Dental’s ongoing support of FSL’s nutrition programs,” said Tami Bohannon, president and CEO of FSL. “Good nutrition is a cornerstone of healthy aging, yet too many older adults face obstacles that prevent them from getting the meals they need. This funding allows us to continue providing vital food services to vulnerable members of our community.”

The Delta Dental of Arizona Foundation grant will help sustain several of FSL’s key nutrition initiatives, including:

· Congregate meal programs serving hot, nutritious meals Monday through Friday at FSL’s senior centers in Wickenburg and Peoria, as well as its adult day health centers in Glendale and Tempe.

· Home-delivered meals for homebound seniors and adults with disabilities, providing daily hot meals, including weekend meals delivered on Fridays.

· Emergency food boxes distributed through FSL’s two food pantries, offering critical relief to low-income families and individuals.

FSL provided more than 190,000 hot meals in 2024 and currently serves approximately 800 hot meals each weekday. Last year, the FSL food pantries distributed 732,000 pounds of food, helping ensure that Arizona’s seniors and families don’t go hungry.
