Girl Scouts–Arizona Cactus-Pine Council Opens New Sports Court with Support from Phoenix Suns/Phoenix Mercury

Girl Scouts–Arizona Cactus-Pine Council (GSACPC) marked the opening of a new multi-use sports court at Shadow Rim Ranch, made possible through a grant from the Phoenix Suns/Phoenix Mercury Foundation.

The court was installed at Shadow Rim Ranch, located in the Tonto National Forest near Payson, and provides a dedicated space for girls attending camp and participating in year-round programs to stay active and engage in recreation and team-based activities.

The 60-foot-by-50-foot court is expected to serve approximately 1,500 girls throughout the year and an additional 500 girls during summer camp and is designed for a range of activities, including basketball, volleyball, badminton, street hockey, pickleball, four square and hopscotch.

"We appreciate investments like this and the meaningful impact they create for girls,” said Mary Mitchell, co-CEO of GSACPC. " Girl Scouts will discover their potential on the court by taking healthy risks, trying a sport for the first time, learning to work together as a team and earning patches that recognize their achievements."

The investment supports GSACPC's mission of building girls of courage, confidence and character by creating new opportunities for the more than 12,000 K-12 girls the Council serves across central and northern Arizona to develop teamwork, resilience and leadership skills – core components of the Girl Scout experience.
