Here are the top three stories today in Phoenix:
- For the second time in a 10-day span, someone stole gas from a HALO Animal Rescue van in Phoenix. The most recent theft happened on Wednesday night; thieves caused $2,500 in damage to the van by drilling holes in it and breaking a mirror, the rescue said. HALO had to delay a trip to pick up 35 dogs in Mexico due to the damage. HALO is asking for donations to help with the cost of repairs; see how you can help at the link. (Phoenix Patch)
- Significant I-10 closures are planned for this weekend in Phoenix according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. Westbound I-10 will be closed for pavement sealing between the I-17 split near Sky Harbor Airport and 19th Avenue from 11 p.m. Friday to 11 p.m. Saturday. The official detour for the I-10 west closure is on I-17, reconnecting with I-10 at the stack interchange north of Van Buren Street. (Phoenix Patch)
- According to police, a man tried to kidnap an 8-year-old girl at a west Phoenix apartment parking lot in broad daylight earlier this week. Apparently, Oscar Ramirez Estrella, 25, made attempts to pull the child out of her mother's car in the parking of their apartment complex near 71st Avenue and Indian School on Mar. 29. Neighbors were able to scare Estrella off and chase him until he was arrested by police. Court documents say "Biblical scriptures" told him to take the victim's car, and Estrella allegedly told detectives that he grabbed the child in the confusion. (FOX 10 News Phoenix)
