Homeless Youth Connection Announces Matched Giving Campaign

Homeless Youth Connection (HYC) is pleased to announce a matched giving campaign with Capital Power through Nov. 30, 2024. The dollar-for-dollar matches up to $50,000 will support youth experiencing homelessness with case management and essential needs, bus passes, co-pays for doc appointments, prescriptions, securing vital documents, and class fees. Capital Power selected HYC as their charity partner to celebrate the opening of their U.S. headquarters in Phoenix. With an extensive power generation portfolio of flexible generation and renewable assets across North America, Capital Power officially opened its new office in October 2024.

“One of the many benefits of having operating facilities and our U.S. headquarters in Arizona is the talented, educated workforce,” said Andrew Pearson, Vice President, U.S. Thermal at Capital Power. “We understand the future of this talent pipeline depends on how the next generation is empowered to succeed, which is why we’ve proudly partnered with Homeless Youth Connection to support their work that contributes to a strong future for Phoenix.”

HYC’s program offers youth experiencing homelessness, ages 13 to 21, comprehensive case management, assistance with basic needs (hygiene items, gift cards for groceries, school supplies including laptops, etc.) housing resources, life skills training and access to healthcare services.

An integral part of the program is HYC’s commitment to education and a sustainable future. They do this by providing stable housing, food, transportation , access to medical care and support throughout the youth’s academic journey. This support allows each HYC youth to build stronger relationships and interpersonal skills, experience stability in their life and learn positive life skills that lead to full independence.

During the 2023-2024 school year, HYC served more than 600 youth in Maricopa County and 21 youth in Coconino County. The nonprofit provides academic support and housing, along with employment, career development and financial literacy services.

HYC was founded in 2010 to meet the needs of homeless youth who wish to remain in high school but may be forced to drop out because they lack a safe or stable home. Beginning with one high school, HYC has expanded to serve over 130 schools throughout Maricopa County and in Flagstaff.
