Here are the top three stories today in Phoenix:
- Police ask for help in searching for a driver that killed a bicyclist in a hit-and-run this weekend. Reports say that Jesus Quintanilla, 66, was riding his bike in a Phoenix crosswalk around 11 p.m. when he was struck by a vehicle. He later died after being taken to a nearby hospital. The car was identified as a white sedan. Anyone with further information is encouraged to report it to authorities. (FOX 10 News Phoenix)
- The Joy Bus Diner has officially reopened after having to close to diners due to COVID. The diner serves breakfast and lunch and was started when its founder, Jennifer Caraway, began to make and deliver meals to a friend with ovarian cancer. She continued to do so throughout the pandemic. 100 percent of its proceeds support the nonprofit that Caraway started. If you'd like to volunteer or donate to The Joy Bus Diner, there is more information at the link. (The Arizona Republic)
- Four hikers had to be rescued from South Mountain and Phoenix Mountain Preserve trails on Saturday. There were reportedly three separate incidents. Two hikers got lost on South Mountain and called police for help. One woman on South Mountain became overheated and called for help, as did a male hiker later that day. Police warn of preparing for the hot weather and bringing plenty of water to avoid dehydration. (The Arizona Republic)

Today in Phoenix:
- MCLEFAZ 17th Annual Golf Tournament At Wildfire Golf Club (7:30 AM)
From my notebook:
- The Arizona unemployment rate dropped to 3.6 percent in February, well below pre-pandemic levels and the lowest it has been since 2007, according to the most recent numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The latest numbers are part of a steady decline in unemployment since the start of the pandemic, when joblessness in the state spiked to 13.9 percent in April 2020. (Patch)
- After making the rounds on the movie awards circuit, the Haim sisters this month are returning to what they are most known for doing: playing music. Este, Danielle, and Alana—who make up the band Haim —will begin their One More Haim Tour on Apr. 24 at The Chelsea at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas. The band then will play the Arizona Federal Theatre in Phoenix on Apr. 25. (Patch)
- You may have seen some flames in downtown Phoenix this weekend. A vacant restaurant that used to be a Taco Bell was on fire until the fire department was able to successfully put it out. (12news)
