Man Critically Injured In Phoenix Hit-And-Run; Driver Flees Scene

PHOENIX, AZ — Phoenix police are searching for the driver of a blue SUV after a man was critically injured in an early morning hit-and-run Wednesday near downtown.

The crash happened around 2:45 a.m. near 7th Avenue and Roosevelt Street, according to police. Investigators said the man was crossing the street outside a marked crosswalk when he was struck by the SUV.

The driver fled the scene without stopping. The victim was rushed to a hospital, where police said he remains in extremely critical condition.

Authorities have not released the man's identity or additional details about the vehicle beyond describing it as a blue SUV. Investigators have not said whether speed, impairment or other factors may have contributed to the crash.

The intersection remained closed for several hours while officers processed the scene, briefly affecting traffic for drivers exiting Interstate 10 near 7th Avenue. All lanes reopened have since reopened, officials said.
