On Monday, March 8, 2021 at approximately 10:43am,Β Bartlett LakeΒ PatrolΒ Deputies responded toΒ aΒ fatal boat crash involving two bass boats just north of Rattlesnake Cove.Β

65-year-oldΒ Matthew Burlington was operating his Nitro bass boat, traveling north along the west side of the lake north of Rattlesnake Cove.Β This is contrary to the traffic pattern.Β Β 

The second boat was being operated byΒ two adultΒ males,Β ages 61 and 72.Β TheΒ Nitro bass boatΒ #2Β was traveling south along the west side of the lake north of Rattlesnake Cove. This area is marked with hazard buoy’s warning boaters of a submerged reef. AsΒ boat #2Β was traveling south along the buoy line, the boat being operated by Matthew suddenly alteredΒ itsΒ course by turning directly into boatΒ #2’sΒ path.Β The operator of boat #2 was unable to make an evasive maneuverΒ and ramped over Matthew’s boat.

All three men were ejected into the water.Β The two adult malesΒ in boat #2 sustained minor injuries and were both wearing personal floatation devices. Matthew sustained traumatic life-threatening injuries upon impact.

The investigation has revealed that impairment did not contribute to this collision. Β This incident will remain open pending a thorough examinationΒ of bothΒ watercraftsΒ involved and the Medical Examiner’s findings.Β
