Melania Trump's Visit To AZ Detention Facility Largely A Mystery

TUCSON, AZ — First lady Melania Trump is set to visit Tucson Thursday, according to a report. The Arizona Republic reports law enforcement officials are preparing for her visit, which will begin at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base.

The Republic reports an anonymous official as saying there are no plans for Trump to visit the border, and that the trip could potentially be canceled. Stephanie Grisham, Trump's spokesperson, did not disclose where the first lady plans to visit, the Republic reports. However, another person familiar with her tentative plans said she may go to Phoenix.

The Arizona Daily Star reports the visit was largely a surprise to some local authorities. The Tucson Police Department was not informed of the first lady's visit until Wednesday afternoon, and the Arizona Department of Public Safety was not officially notified.

Melania Trump faced criticism last Thursday, June 21 for wearing a jacket reading "I really don't care. Do u?" on the back while visiting a McAllen, Texas child immigrant detention facility. McAllen's high temperature that day was 99 degrees.
