  1. An 18-year-old from nearby Scottsdale was named Distinguished Young Woman of America for 2022. Katelyn Cai was one of fifty young women who competed for the finals: one competitor from each state. The title came with $40,000 in cash and $6,000 in scholarships. According to Cai, she will be spending the prize money on law school. (Arizona's Family)
  2. Sunday's monsoon became dangerous at a home in south Phoenix on Sunday. According to firefighters, the fire spread from a tree to a home near Baseline Road and 7th Avenue around 5:30 p.m. Investigators are still looking into the fire as of Monday afternoon, but the initial impression is that a lightning strike caused the fire. No one was injured. (12news.com KPNX)
