Here are the top three stories today in Phoenix:
- On Sunday, a Phoenix police officer shot a man accused of waving a machete and walking toward officers with it. According to a news release from the Phoenix Police Department, officers told the man to drop the machete; however, the man was shouting in Spanish, and it was unclear if the man understood the commands given to him. Authorities have not publicly identified the man, who was treated for critical injuries at an area hospital. (Phoenix Patch)
- A long-held tradition of flying veterans from Phoenix Sky Harbor to Washington, D.C. resumed on Monday morning. The program with Honor Flight Arizona had been on hiatus for over two years due to the pandemic. Over 100 veterans flew from Arizona to our nation's capital on the exclusive charter flight. - A man is in critical condition after being shot multiple times outside the Classico Phoenix Nightclub, according to police. Officers on the scene found the victim shot several times inside a car that had crashed into an SUV; he was taken to a nearby hospital. As of Monday evening, authorities have not released any information on a possible suspect. (FOX 10 News Phoenix)
