Organized and hosted by the Phoenix Public Works' Zero Waste Team, each webinar is focused on waste diversion, such as recycling and composting, and features guest presenters who are experts in various fields of sustainability.

All webinars are free and are suitable for young teens and up. The webinar presentations are 20-30 minutes long followed by a Q&A and discussion about recycling and other waste diversion programs.

As an added incentive, the Zero Waste Team partnered with Phoenix's Green Business Leaders to raffle away $100 gift cards to local businesses. Community members who register for any of the Zero Waste webinars are automatically entered into the raffle drawing. Winners of the gift cards will be announced during each webinar and must be present during the webinar to win.

Participating Phoenix Green Business Leaders, who donated a total of 6-$100 gift cards include: Copper Star Coffee, Keep Phoenix Beautiful and Arizona Wilderness Brewing Co. Local mattress company, Tuft & Needle, donated a mattress of any size to be raffled off as the grand prize in December, when the 2020 series ends.

Registration is free at phoenix.gov/RecyclePlus, where the complete schedule and information on the webinar topics can be found.

The goal of the Zero Waste Webinar Series is to encourage Phoenix residents and beyond to recycle more, but to do it right. Each correctly recycled material in Phoenix contributes to the city's waste diversion goal of 40% by the end of 2020, and ultimately, to be zero waste by 2050. Setting these types of sustainability goals helps preserve the available space in the city's landfill.
