Phoenix Breaks Off Talks With Suns Over Arena Renovation: Report

12 News reports that the decision was made behind a closed door city council meeting on Tuesday.

Phoenix has broken off talks with the Suns over plans to renovate the Talking Stick Resort Arena, according to a report by 12 News. The sides have been been discussing a plan to spend $450 million to renovate the team's home.

The station reports that the city council made the decision in executive session behind closed doors on Tuesday.

12 News had reported last week that two council members – Councilwoman Kate Gallego and Councilman Daniel Valenzuela – both of whom are running for mayor, object to the deal.

"Taxpayers have been expected to foot the bill for sports venues," the station quoted Valenzuela as saying. "That practice must stop now."
