Here are the top stories today in Phoenix:
1) An unprecedented amount of families coming in for food, increases the demand for volunteers at St. Mary's Food Bank in Phoenix.

"We're packing 50,000 emergency food boxes every month. And that's something that's done completely by volunteers," said Jerry Brown, the director of public relations at St. Mary's Food Bank in Phoenix.

2) Phoenix is giving $5M to community colleges in scholarships.

The funding will cover expenses for almost 500 students; expenses include tuition, books, transportation and child care.

3) Phoenix Fire Department in need of help due to lack of resources and exponential urban growth.

"Phoenix has grown so much recently, especially in the past decade, and in that decade we built one fire station to keep up with the exponential amount of explosive growth that Phoenix has experienced. It's quite frankly not enough for us to keep up," said P.J. Dean, Secretary and Communications Director with United Phoenix Firefighters Local 493.
