Phoenix Fire Ambulance Hits, Kills Man On Way To Call
Emergency responders were leaving the station in response to a call when their ambulance hit the sleeping homeless man, official said.

PHOENIX, AZ — An unidentified man is dead after being struck by a Phoenix Fire Department ambulance leaving a station.
The accident happened at the station near 12th Avenue and Pierce Street soon after 11:30 a.m. Monday, AZ Central reports.
Police said the fire station got an emergency call and when the rescue vehicle dispatched, the crew heard a bump. They saw a backpack on the ground in the mirror, AZ Central reports, finding the man injured. He was taken to a hospital, but later pronounced dead.

Capt. Rob McDade with the Phoenix Fire Department told Patch that the victim was, he believed, "a homeless individual who appeared to be sleeping outside the fire station." He wasn't seen at first because of where he was laying, McDade said.
The fire department is cooperating with the Phoenix Police Department's investigation.
