Here are the top three stories in Phoenix today:

  1. As the historic drought in the West continues, the City of Phoenix has voluntarily given up a large part of its entitled Colorado River water shares as part of a drought mitigation plan. The move is expected to keep Lake Mead, the United States' largest reservoir, from falling to dangerously low elevation levels this year. Phoenix will be compensated over $4 million dollars in exchange for contributing nearly 16,000 acre-feet of water to the reservoir; officials are looking to use these funds for citywide water conservation efforts. (Downtown Devil)
  2. A World War II veteran with the Women's Army Corps celebrated her 100th birthday in Phoenix on Tuesday. Virginia "Ginny" Davis joined the military after her first husband, Robert Brouk, died in a training accident. When asked about her secrets to her long life, Davis said, "I have to have 5 ounces of red wine and [a] little square of 85% dark chocolate ... [and] I eat a lot of raw spinach." (12news.com KPNX)
  3. A male Southwest Airlines passenger flying to Phoenix is accused of masturbating while seated next to a female passenger. The female reported seeing the man, Antonio McGarity, pull down his pants and perform sex acts on himself; he admitted to doing so and reportedly asked the female passenger if she minded. McGarity, who has been banned from Southwest for life, currently faces charges of lewd, indecent, or obscene acts. (Phoenix Patch)

From our sponsor:

Where should you invest as a Phoenix resident with a $149,000 nest egg? Thanks to a change in the legal code, there's a new investment Phoenix residents need to know about. In fact, Bloomberg asked experts where they'd invest $100,000 right now and many of them chose it.

This may surprise you, but it's fine art.

Growing your nest egg with art isn't new. Wealthy families like the Rockefellers have done it for centuries.

Here's why:

  • Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
  • Contemporary art historically returns 23.2% when inflation is >3%
  • Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164% (1995-2021)

Translation: Art could be one of the best investments for uncertain times.

Luckily for you, we found Masterworks. This revolutionary platform lets you invest in art by Warhol, Monet, Picasso without spending millions.

The best part? Anyone from your area can skip their waitlist*.
