Phoenix HS Baseball Star And Oakland A's Prospect Dies Suddenly
Casey Thomas was on extended Spring Training in Phoenix.

Casey Thomas, the baseball star at Desert Vista who went on to Texas A&M before being drafted by the Oakland A's died suddenly Tuesday. He was 24.

The team said that Thomas was in Phoenix on extended Spring Training.

"We were devastated to hear of this tragedy within the A's family," said Billy Beane, the team's executive vice president of baseball operations.
"Our hearts go out to Tom and his family on their loss. Casey was a wonderful young man and teammate, and will be missed by all in the A's organization."

Thomas is from Kansas City and the son of Tom Thomas, the A's pro scout.

He was drafted last year in the 34th round and spent the season on the team's rookie-level affiliate in the Arizona League.
He hit .258 with 18 RBI in 37 games.
No cause has been released.
