The Phoenix Police Department broke ground on a new K-9 facility and Mayor Kate Gallego was proud to be there. Brycon Construction is partnering with the City of Phoenix to build a new enclosed, climate-controlled kennel which will have an outdoor dog run and splash pad, made possible by a consortium of donors. The Phoenix K-9 Unit began 42 years ago, supported by federal grants that allowed Phoenix PD to acquire two narcotic detention dogs and, a year later, two explosives detection dogs. Today the Phoenix Police Department has the largest K-9 Unit in the state with 17 dual-purpose canines. “This is an exciting project for the Phoenix Police Department and there could not be a better place than Phoenix to build a climate-controlled kennel with a splash pad. Our K-9s will be thrilled," said Mayor Kate Gallego.
