Glendale Police Sergeant Survives Shooting, Suspect Dead

It happened around 10:30 Friday morning by 43rd Avenue and Hatcher Road.

PHOENIX, AZ – A sergeant with the Glendale Police Department is in serious condition after being shot by a man that he was trying to arrest. The suspect was later shot and killed by other officers.

It happened around 10:30 on Friday morning by 43rd Avenue and Hatcher Road.

The sergeant was part of a team including deputies from the U.S. Marshals Office and the Phoenix Police Department that were trying to arrested a 44-year-old man wanted for burglary.

As the sergeant was rushed to the hospital, the suspect was able to flee in the chaos. He was tracked down by other members of the unit who found him within the hour in a nearby residential neighborhood.

Police say that he had a criminal history that includes assaulting an officer.
