Here are the top three stories today in Phoenix:
- A professional skater from Phoenix is making a name for himself nationwide. Chad Hornish, a local celebrity at Tempe Skate Park, will be featured on over 100,000 bottles of Jones Soda Co. that will be sold nationwide. Hornish is one of 15 pros selected for the campaign, which will leverage augmented reality and QR codes to bring the skaters' tricks to life. (ABC15 Arizona in Phoenix)
- Last Friday, the Phoenix City Council voted to begin offering 12 weeks of paid parental leave to city employees. Public employees who have worked for a minimum of one year and 1,250 hours are eligible for the benefit. The new parental leave policy aims to make the City of Phoenix a more competitive employer. - The Phoenix Police Department has reportedly not yet hired an interim police chief. Though Chief Jeri Williams announced her planned retirement over two months ago, the city has not posted the job. According to Dan Wilson, Director of Communications for the city, the open position does not need to be listed because it is only an interim role. (ABC15 Arizona in Phoenix)
