Here are the top three stories today in Phoenix:

  1. A Phoenix pilot was killed after his plane crashed in a strawberry field north of Los Angeles, CA on Friday morning. The plane struck a building on the south side of the 101 freeway after taking off from the Camarillo Airport, the Ventura County Fire Department reports. The plane was headed back to Phoenix at the time of the crash. One person died, according to officials. (Arizona's Family)
  2. A new social club, X Club, will open in downtown Phoenix later this month. Many amenities will be offered, including a rooftop lounge with a bar and restaurant, a fully equipped gym, and what they say will be the largest pool and hot tub in downtown Phoenix. The new club is set to open this Monday, Jun. 15, and will host a grand opening on Jun. 18 from 5:00-10:00 p.m. at the pool. (ABC15 Arizona in Phoenix)
  3. The 2022 Phoenix July 4th Fireworks shows have been canceled this year. Due to supply chain issues, the city of Phoenix Parks and Recreations Department canceled all three of its annual fireworks events — Fabulous Phoenix Fourth, Light Up the Sky at the American Family Fields, and After Dark in the Park. Marty Whitfield, Parks and Recreation assistant director, said in a statement, "The City's contractor was unable to secure fireworks for the events. We apologize to our community for the inconvenience." (Phoenix Patch)
