Plane Crashes Onto Phoenix Roadway Near Deer Valley Airport

BREAKING: A plane crashed near 7th Street and Deer Valley Road. At least one person is reportedly dead and another was hurt.

PHOENIX, AZ — A small plane crashed onto a roadway near Deer Valley Airport and at least one person was reportedly killed. The single-engine plane crashed near 7th Street and Deer Valley Road around 6:50 a.m. Monday, multiple media outlets reported. Police closed off the area and warned drivers to avoid the area. Several cars were damaged.

FAA spokesman Ian Gregor told media outlets the small plane was a homebuilt Acroduster. The cause of the crash remains unknown. The identities of the victims weren't immediately released.

Video posted on social media showed several firefighters working on the remnants of a blue plane with a black and white checkered tail. Blue debris from the aircraft littered the surrounding street and at least one SUV appeared to have sustained major damage, with a massive dent and gash in the roof.

FAA records showed the fixed-wing plane, an Acroduster II, was classified as "experimental" and "amateur built." It is registered to an owner in Solana Beach, California.
