Here are the top three stories today in Phoenix:
- Phoenix Police Department presented Josh Jones with the Citizens Award for rescuing a teenage girl from an assault downtown last month. Jones intervened, pulling the assailant off of the victim and holding him until police arrived. "I just did what I thought was right," said Jones. (FOX 10 News Phoenix)
- Realtor.com's Monthly Rental Report on rental data showed affordability issues are on the rise, with Phoenix-area renters spending nearly 35 percent of their monthly income on rent. Chief Economist Daniel Hale stated that as a general rule of thumb monthly housing costs should be less than 30 percent of income. Rents have climbed up to nearly 20 percent in the last two years, making rental affordability challenging. (AZ Big Media)
- Phoenix-based Habitat for Humanity received an $8.5M donation from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott. The donation was part of a $436M donation to Habitat for Humanity International and 83 U.S. Habitat affiliate organizations. (The Business Journals)
