Here are the top three stories today in Phoenix:
- A Silver Alert has been issued for a missing 74-year-old Phoenix woman. Maria Astorga was last seen near Black Canyon Highway and Campbell Avenue wearing a green shirt. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Phoenix Police Department immediately. As of Friday evening, Astorga was still listed as missing. (KTAR.com)
- A 7-year-old boy is in critical condition after being rescued from a pool by the Phoenix Fire Department. The incident occurred at a pool near 32nd Street and Thomas Road on Friday afternoon. It remains unclear how the boy fell into the pool or how long he was underwater before crews were able to rescue him. (The Arizona Republic)
- The City of Phoenix is closing Camelback Mountain's Echo and Cholla trails and trails connected to Piestewa Peak Trailhead between 11 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. The policy is in response to the Excessive Heat Warning issued by the National Weather Service. The city hopes that the closures will reduce the number of rescues while keeping emergency first responders safe during the heatwave. (KNAU Arizona Public Radio)
