Stabbing At Light Rail Platform Under Investigation

A man standing on a light rail platform early Thursday morning was stabbed multiple times.

PHOENIX, AZ — A 30-year-old man was stabbed multiple times Thursday morning by an unknown assailant as he stood on a Phoenix light rail platform, police said. The incident occurred around 3:15 a.m. in the area of 19th Avenue and Camelback Road.

The victim, who was alone, is expected to recover from his injuries, police said. He was taken to a Phoenix hospital for treatment, police said.

The victim was intoxicated at the time of the incident and was “less than cooperative,” but did provide a description of the assailant, police said, according to a report by KNXV television.

He said the man who stabbed him was wearing a gray sleeveless shirt, black shorts and a gray ball cap and was carrying a backpack, the report said. The incident occurred when Valley Metro rail service was not operating.
