Here are the top 3 stories today in Phoenix:
- A teen died after sustaining what police say was an accidental gunshot wound. Police found the 17-year-old suffering from the wound in the backseat of a car, and he was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries. A 16-year-old suspect, who was reportedly unloading the gun when he accidentally shot the victim, was taken into custody. (The Arizona Republic)
- Phoenix Union High School District's governing board has unanimously approved a resolution opposing legislation that targets transgender student athletes. Senate Bill 1165 bars trans girls and women from joining the athletic teams of the gender they identify with, and it was signed into law in late March. The Phoenix school district issued a statement in support of transgender youth and called the new law an "attack on the safety of trans children." (Arizona Mirror)
- A national call to action prompted thousands of protesters to gather in downtown Phoenix to protest the U.S. Supreme Court's potential repeal of Roe v. Wade. Activists protested in front of the Arizona state capitol as part of the nationwide "Bans Off Our Bodies" rally. A few dozen counterprotesters, who support a repeal of Roe V. Wade, were also at the Phoenix rally. (The Arizona Republic)
