Put The Meaning in Memorial Day By Howard Wool

Baiting Hollow chemical pioneer, Howard Wool, is using this Memorial Day to promote groups which support the families of fallen military

Howard Wool of ESI (Environmental Safety Inc) is looking forward to spending time relaxing on the Memorial Day weekend with his family and announced today that he, and his company will use the weekend to draw attention to the true meaning of the Holiday. As they enjoy the outdoors in the little paradise of Baiting Hollow, Long Island, he is always aware of the significance of the day. He appreciates the sacrifices made by fallen soldiers to ensure that he and his family are able to celebrate together like this.

Early ceremonies

Since the first ceremonies in small towns after the Civil War, Americans have gathered on Memorial Day to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. As in those days when people laid wreaths and placed flags, Memorial Day is felt deeply by families who have personally lost loved ones.

Loss of loved ones

Howard Wool has many friends who have lost a loved one in service. He has experienced their grief and seen gravesides with the coffin draped in the American flag. For these people, they feel grief every day and not just on Memorial Day.

Promoting awareness

Other Americans, especially young people, may not have any connection with the military. They may not have lost loved ones and may not even know any veterans. This makes it hard for them to identify.

The veterans of past battles are getting older, and their ranks are thinner today. Only a small percentage of American people are in active military service. Unless they are made aware, a number of Americans remain ignorant of the sacrifices that have been made for them.

Some ways to pay honor

Many people close their eyes, stay silent and say prayers at 3pm thanks to the National Moment of Remembrance Act. Trains blow their whistles, cars drive with their headlights, and people watching sports games remain silent.

Some people will fly a flag at half-staff and watch the Memorial Day Parade in Washington D.C. on the screen or even attend a parade in their city. Others pay a visit to a cemetery where ceremonies are held on Memorial Day. Still, others participate in sports events in honor of the fallen soldiers.

Make your children aware

As a family man, Howard Wool wants his grandchildren to understand something of the history of the country and why it’s important to honor and respect the fallen. He wants them to feel gratitude for what was done to protect them and give them freedom. Many families are conscious of that need and try to help their children to connect in some way.

One way to make young people feel more connected is to suggest writing a letter to a veteran or someone in active military service. An organization called A Million Wishes makes sure that the letter reaches someone. Taking children to a parade can provide a great opportunity to talk about what they are seeing and give them a glimpse into the past.

Make a donation and more

Howard Wool believes that making a donation to an organization that supports soldiers is one of the best ways to show support. There are numerous organizations that deserve support. People can go to websites like Charity Navigator and Charity Watch to find out more about charity organizations before making a donation.

They are many other ways to offer support too, from volunteering for organizations to donating blood. One can join an organization like Adopt-A-Grave and become responsible for clearing away debris and placing flowers on a grave.

Howard Wool believes that it’s not enough to go through acceptable motions on Memorial Day but to recognize its true meaning. It’s a time for gratitude and to give honor to those who deserve it as well as a time to celebrate freedom and be grateful for family and friends.
