Here are the top three stories today in Phoenix:

  1. The Phoenix VA nursing home is reportedly infested with rats. The issue was discovered when Community Living Center workers discovered ceiling damage caused by the rats. The center was placed under evaluation for exterminators once the infestation was discovered. The center's residents were moved to other VA locations. Thankfully, nobody at the center has been harmed by the rats. (12news.com KPNX)
  2. A Phoenix man has been sentenced to 24 years in prison for killing a Maricopa County jail officer in 2013. Leonard Moreno was found guilty of shooting the detention officer in his driveway. A plea deal was accepted due to serious factual issues with the case. (Daily Independent)
  3. The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office is investigating an incident that resulted in the death of a man that crashed into a parked semi-truck. The incident occurred near 67th Avenue and Baseline Road in Phoenix on Saturday night around 8:30 p.m. It is unknown how the crash occurred and the man's identity has not been released by the department.
