West Valley Arts CEO Receives Economic Legend Award

SURPRISE, Ariz. (Dec. 23, 2020): West Valley Arts President and CEO Sandra Bassett received the 2020 Economic Empowerment Legend Award at the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc’s virtual celebration earlier this month.

Presented by the Phoenix Metropolitan Chapter, other honorees were Colleen Jennings-Roggensack, Arizona State University Vice President for Cultural Affairs and Executive Director of ASU Gammage: Education Legend; LaWanda Mann, a certified nurse practitioner at Family Tree Health Clinic: Health Legend; and Dr. Nikki Giovanni, an American poet and University Distinguished Professor at Virginia Tech University: National Civic Engagement Legend.

The event also featured a special message from iconic actress and producer Kim Fields.

“I am incredibly honored and gratified not just to receive this deeply meaningful award but to be among such a remarkable group of women leaders who have contributed so much and are making a difference in the lives of so many,” Bassett said.

The National Coalition of 100 Black Women is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization working through advocacy as change agents to influence policy that promotes gender equity in health, education and economic empowerment. The organization’s vision is to see black women and girls living in a world where socio-economic inequity does not exist. There are 60 local chapters in 28 states.
