Today's riddle: What do you get when you cross an angry cow with an angry sheep? 🤔 (Answer below!)
• 11 Arizona cities have terminated Flock contracts. One town passed new rules to keep the cameras (kjzz.org) — Queen Creek has chosen to keep its Flock license plate cameras but passed a new ordinance adding legal guardrails, including making knowing misuse of ALPR data a class 1 misdemeanor. Police Chief Randy Brice says data will be stored only 30 days and shared with vetted agencies, while critics worry the rules still allow broad information sharing beyond Queen Creek.
• Phoenix suburb says new fee brings water independence (azcentral.com) — Queen Creek leaders are proposing a new $3.07-per‑1,000‑gallons water fee that could add up to about $18–$31 a month for typical households, offset partly by wastewater credits. The change would replace a regional groundwater charge on property tax bills and help fund long‑term supplies from Harquahala, with possible phased increases and a public hearing likely this fall.
• Suspect in custody after shooting at home near Sacaton-Queen Creek border (kold.com) — A shooting Tuesday morning on the Gila River Indian Reservation near the Sacaton–Queen Creek area led to a precautionary shelter‑in‑place for nearby Queen Creek schools, including Casteel High. Gila River police, working with Queen Creek police and the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, later arrested a suspect, lifted the school restrictions, and confirmed all students and staff were safe.
