Here are the top stories today in Scottsdale:
- Scottsdale's 10th annual Fourth of July celebration will take place on Tuesday, July 4 from 5 to 9 p.m. at WestWorld of Scottsdale, 16601 N. Pima Road. Guests can enjoy a bull-riding rodeo hosted by The Copper State Rodeo Company and Medieval Times Jr. Knight training for aspiring knights. The Cold Beers & Cheeseburgers Summer Slider Eating Contest Championship will take place at the event, Disney characters will make an appearance, and outstanding leaders will be recognized in the 4th Annual Parade of Heroes. Guests can also enjoy backyard BBQ by M. Culinary, family-friendly games, and fireworks! This will be a cashless event, so be prepared to pay by card. Purchase tickets at Scottsdale4th.com. (City of Scottsdale)
- Looking for more events to keep the kids or grandkids entertained? Consider checking out the Children's Learning and Play Festival on Saturday, June 24 at WestWorld of Scottsdale. The free event takes place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and features "children's authors, illustrators, music, live performances, rides, STEM activities, local business vendors and a host of interactive fun for toddlers, children and young adults." (McDowell Sonoran Conservancy)
- Scottsdale Fire Department has been hard at work keeping our community safe! Over 45 firefighters battled and cleared a house fire that was spreading through the entire attic. Crews made an opening on the roof using saws and other tools to allow for vertical ventilation, which is the "removal of super-heated toxic gases and smoke by allowing it to take its natural traveling path." Crews were also working with Southwest Gas on securing a natural gas leak at 9380 E. Bahia Drive. They put a "hose line on the ground for fire protection," and they assisted with "metering the ground and inside structures near the leak." Thank you, SFD! (Scottsdale Fire Department via Facebook)
