2 Scottsdale Schools Make Arizona's Top 25 High Schools: U.S. News

SCOTTSDALE, AZ — Two Scottsdale public charter schools are among Arizona's top 25 public high schools in the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings, with BASIS Scottsdale landing in the state's top 10 and among the nation's top 100.

BASIS Scottsdale ranked No. 7 in Arizona and No. 51 nationally in U.S. News' 2026-27 Best High Schools rankings. The school reported a 100% graduation rate and a college-readiness score of 100, with 311 students enrolled in grades nine through 12.

Great Hearts Academies — Scottsdale Prep also made Arizona's top 25, ranking No. 24 in the state and No. 1,221 nationally. The school reported a 96% graduation rate and a college-readiness score of 33.6, with 362 students in grades nine through 12.

Both schools are public charter schools, meaning they are publicly funded but operate independently of traditional school districts.

The rankings are based on several measures of school performance, including student results in math, reading and science, participation and performance on college-level exams and graduation rates.

U.S. News reviewed more than 27,000 public high schools and ranked nearly 18,000 for its 2026-27 list. Charter and magnet schools were eligible for the rankings, while private schools were not included because of limitations in publicly available data.

BASIS Scottsdale serves students in fourth through 12th grades. Scottsdale Prep is part of the Great Hearts network.

U.S. News uses a national percentile-based scoring system to measure school performance. For example, a school with an overall score of 60 performed in the 60th percentile among the schools included in the rankings.

The rankings were developed by U.S. News in partnership with RTI International, a nonprofit research organization.
