- Sixty residents were evacuated after a Scottsdale condo flooded yesterday. According to the Scottsdale Fire Department, fire crews helped evacuate 63 units on Thursday morning from the complex near 94th Street and Thunderbird Road. As of Thursday afternoon, crews reported they believed a burst pipe had caused the flooding but did not know when residents would be able to return to their homes. (12News)
- Members of the Scottsdale fire department are participating in a grant-led cancer study. The Arizona Board of Regents recently awarded a $4 million grant to fund a study that aims to find a new way to reduce and reverse the risk of cancer in firefighters. Scottsdale Fire Chief Tom Shannon said, "[We're] far more susceptible to get cancer because of the things that we're exposed to," including about a dozen carcinogens inside burning buildings. (ABC15)
