Happy Friday, Scottsdale! Let's get you all caught up on what's happening locally.

First, today's weather:

Partly sunny with a high of 86 and a low of 65. Look out for an unseasonable cooling trend coming early next week!

Here are the top stories today in Scottsdale:

  1. Adam Metzendorf has announced his candidacy for Arizona's 6th Congressional District seat, according to a story in the Arizona Republic. Metzendorf lives in Scottsdale and is 33 years old. He was formerly the director of Membership Experience for the Suns, Mercury, and Rattlers. The report describes his district as a historically conservative and affluent area that includes Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, and Fountain Hills. About his motivation to run, Metzendorf said, "What really got me interested in a political career was how I was brought up with my faith and my family... I was taught that you can't just sit on the sidelines." (AZ Central)
  2. Scottsdale-based Diane and Bruce Halle Foundation has chosen its new executive director; Tom Eagan begins in the role on Oct. 18. According to reporting in the Scottsdale Independent, Egan leaves the Foundation for Senior Living as president and CEO to take the foundation post. Beyond his "passion for helping vulnerable populations," Eagan will bring a "track record of governance and building strong community relationships" to oversee and grow the social justice-focused foundation. (Your Valley)
  3. Scottsdale's Adopt-a-Senior initiative runs from October through December. The program ensures that some of our most vulnerable citizens are not forgotten during the gift-giving season. According to the City Sun-Times, 320 seniors were adopted last year. Volunteers will receive gift lists at the beginning of November.
