Happy Thursday, neighbors! These are some important things going on today in town.

First, today's weather:

The sun will shine through high clouds; 89 is the expected high, 65 is the expected low. Kinda perfect, no?

Here are the top stories in Scottsdale today:

  1. Just before the Scottsdale City Council was meant to vote on the fate of 300+ residences, part of a multifamily complex (92 Ironwood) on the eastern side of the Shea Corridor, the meeting was postponed. According to reporting in the Scottsdale Independent, Tiffany and Bosco's senior planner, Kurt Jones, requested the 11th-hour extension to finalize agreements with neighboring property owners. While extension requests are commonplace, there appears to be increased pressure on developers building multi-unit complexes. Council Member Solange Whitehead said, "I responded to many concerned constituents over the weekend regarding two development proposals: Greenbelt 88 and 92 Ironwood. At present, I will not support either proposal and shared my reasons with the development teams... frustration with overdevelopment is why I ran for City Council and is the best reason for voters to ratify General Plan 2035." The length of the continuance is not yet known. (Scottsdale Independent)
  2. Scottsdale has witnessed the renters portion of the housing market grow from 26 percent to 32 percent. A lot can happen in 10 years. According to reporting in AZBigMeadia, "Renters are now the majority in 103 suburbs that were previously homeowner territory 10 years ago." Typically left to homeowners, renters are overtaking many suburban areas. That number is growing and likely to increase 160 in five years," according to the piece. (AZBigMedia)
  3. The Scottsdale Quarter will host a weeklong fall festival to celebrate the final phase of the Scottsdale Quarter. "Boo & New," a celebration of the recently completed construction, runs from Oct. 18-23. Celebratory events include musical performances, art displays, Halloween fun, and of course, plenty to eat and drink. According to a Scottsdale Quarter press release, "Fall is a time to celebrate the changing season, and it's the perfect time to commemorate the newest and final section of The Quarter," said Richard Hunt, general manager at Scottsdale Quarter. The week-long event closes with the fourth annual "Boo & Brew" Saturday, Oct. 23, bring your costumed dog if you dare! (Scottsdale Patch)
