Affordable Housing + Vaccine Pop-Up + Letter From The Vice Mayor

Check out Friday's edition of the Scottsdale Daily!

(David Allen/Patch)

Morning, Scottsdale! Here's what's happening.

First, your weekend weather:

Cooler and dry on Friday: Plenty of sunshine with a high of 86, and a low of 63. The weekend outlook includes slowly warming temperatures and sunny skies.

Here are the top stories in Scottsdale today:

  1. The complex topic of affordable housing, including workforce housing, has received the attention of the Scottsdale City Council in recent weeks and months. According to reporting in the Scottsdale Independent, "data shows of the 200,059 jobs within Scottsdale, 166,549 of those workers commute to Scottsdale." Those numbers create the potential for a cultural and community disconnect because the vast majority of city employees are not neighbors of the people for whom they provide services. As a result, a Housing Affordability Working Group is being considered "to make efforts toward unlocking an ongoing affordable housing issue." (Your Valley)
  2. The City of Scottsdale is hosting a COVID-19 Vaccine pop-up/walk-in event at Eldorado Park Community Center on Thursday, Oct. 14, from 1:30-5:30 p.m. Shots will be administered to those who have not yet been vaccinated or those ready for their second dose. The Maricopa County Department of Public Health will be administering the Pfizer and Johnson and Johnson vaccines. The Pfizer vaccine, approved for ages 12 and older (parental consent required), will be available for that age group. Please call 480-312-3111 for more information about the event. (Press Release Desk)
  3. The Nov. 2 Special Election ballot regarding the Scottsdale General Plan 2035 is coming to a mailbox near you beginning next week. According to a letter published in the Scottsdale Independent, Vice Mayor Betty Janik states that General Plan 2035 "represents the Scottsdale Vision, your vision, to guide our city for the next decade." She adds, "the plan is a collaboration of citizens, civic organizations, local businesses, and council members." The City Council voted unanimously in June to approve the plan and schedule the vote. The plan can be read here, in its entirety. (Your Valley)
