Here are the top stories today in Scottsdale:
- Amelia's by Eat, a restaurant and market, is opening at 8240 N. Hayden Road mid-June. Guests can expect "a grocery-style refrigerator packed with wine, salads, sushi," and to-go snacks and salads, a bakery case with sweet treats and fresh baked breads, and a market with pantry items like olives and crackers. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee, and a full bar will be offered at the "counter service restaurant," which owner Stacey Weber describes as "an all-day eating place." With a focus on whole foods, clean ingredients, and in-house and scratch-made items, guests can feel good while filling up! (Free: NewsBreak, Subscription: The Arizona Republic)
- Scottsdale couple Drew and Jamie Schmitt got married at White Castle this past Cinco De Mayo! Not only do Drew and Jamie love White Castle food and eat there "hundreds of times per year," but the restaurant also served as a "safehouse" for Jamie as a teenager, offering her food, water, and kindness during difficult times. After 15 years together and getting engaged "when they were inducted into the White Castle Hall of Fame in 2019," the couple took the next step with their White Castle wedding ceremony featuring a slider wedding cake, "crowns and armor," and 150 friends and family. (Arizona's Family)
- International exchange student coordinator Janae LeDoux is seeking families to host 30 high school students this fall. Though it is very challenging to find families willing to host these students, LeDoux is committed to her calling and not giving up! The high school aged students needing placement have "their own medical insurance with vetted, background-checked families," and they "do not need to be provided with their own personal vehicle for transportation." For more information, contact LeDoux at JanaeLeDoux@outlook.com or 480-203-1932. (Scottsdale Progress)
