Woman Shot By Scottsdale Police After Lobby Standoff Booked Into Jail

SCOTTSDALE, AZ — A woman who was shot by Scottsdale police officers after walking into a police station lobby with a gun has been released from the hospital and booked into a Maricopa County jail.

Eva Josefina Garcia, 23, of Goodyear, faces a slate of felony charges including attempted homicide, aggravated assault on an officer and kidnapping.

She is being held on an $850,000 cash-only bond, according to police.

The incident unfolded the morning of April 30 at the McKellips District Station near McKellips and Miller roads.

According to police, Garcia entered the lobby and pointed a handgun at a police aide, telling the person to get on their knees. She then aimed the weapon at a second person in the lobby before officers responded.

Officers ordered Garcia to drop the gun. Instead, she pointed it at them. When she tried to fire, the weapon malfunctioned and she attempted to clear it.

An officer then fired multiple rounds, striking Garcia, who fell to the ground and dropped the firearm.

Officers immediately moved to secure Garcia and render first aid until paramedics transported her to a hospital, where she remained under protective custody. No one else was injured.

Garcia was released from the hospital on May 11 and booked into jail.

As of Wednesday morning, jail records showed she remained in custody on the $850,000 bond.
