Scottsdale Honors Police Chief Joe LeDuc For 35 Years Of Service

SCOTTSDALE, AZ — Scottsdale Police Chief Joe LeDuc has come a long way since his first day on patrol in 1991.

The Scottsdale City Council recognized LeDuc this month for 35 years of service to the city, a milestone that traces a career path from entry-level patrol officer through nearly every rank in the department.

LeDuc has served as a detective, sergeant, lieutenant, commander, assistant chief and, now, chief of police.

LeDuc was named assistant chief in 2021 and became interim chief in January 2025 when his predecessor, Jeff Walther, moved into an administrative role. He was later promoted to chief. Walther was officially appointed assistant city manager by City Manager Greg Caton this week.

Two other city employees were also recognized at the monthly service anniversary ceremony, though the city did not release their names or details.

The monthly recognition is a regular part of council business, with the council honoring employees reaching milestone anniversaries and thanking them for their years of service to the community.

LeDuc leads a department that has grown considerably since it was established in 1963 with 47 full-time employees. Today, the Scottsdale Police Department employs more than 600 full-time personnel and 40 volunteers.
