Visitors will be able to tour the facility, meet detention center staff, ask questions and get a behind-the-scenes look at how the city jail operates.

The event is also an opportunity for anyone interested in a career as a detention officer to learn more about the job and speak with employees about what the role involves.

"Whether you're exploring a career in law enforcement or just curious about what we do, this event is open to the public," the department said in its announcement.

The Scottsdale Police Department is asking anyone who plans to attend to RSVP by sending a direct message through the department's Facebook page.

The open house will be held Thursday evening at the Scottsdale Police Department's detention center, giving residents a rare opportunity to see an area of the department that is typically closed to the public.
