Shuttered Scottsdale Restaurant Space Gets New Life With Major Makeover

The North Scottsdale restaurant plans a larger concept with a steakhouse, rooftop lounge, tequila bar and boutique.

SCOTTSDALE, AZ — Alma Scottsdale is coming back bigger than before, with plans to reopen this fall at The Citadel in North Scottsdale as a new dining and entertainment destination.

The restaurant, part of Soul Hospitality Group, announced on social media that it is targeting an Oct. 1 opening at 8700 E. Pinnacle Peak Road, the former home of Preston's Steakhouse. Founder and CEO Sheila Bryson said the timeline could shift into early November depending on construction progress.

Alma announced earlier this year that it would close its previous location and move farther north. The new space became available after Preston's Steakhouse closed last year following a decade in business.

In its closure announcement, Preston's cited the condition of the building and required repairs after more than 10 years in the space.

The new Alma will be more than a single restaurant. According to Bryson's announcement, the space will feature a Southwest-inspired steakhouse centered on wood-fired cooking and flavors from Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and Northern Mexico.

The property will also include Copper Club, a rooftop lounge with live music and desert views, along with a tequila and mezcal bar offering tastings paired with chef-created tacos and small bites.

The project will also bring back Barbwire Western Couture, a western fashion boutique Bryson previously operated. The shop will offer clothing, jewelry, boots and hats inside the same building.

Bryson said guests will be able to move between the different spaces while ordering from Alma's full menu, whether they are seated in the steakhouse, enjoying the rooftop lounge or visiting the tequila bar.

"We're building more than a restaurant," Bryson said in the announcement. "We're creating a place to celebrate, gather, explore, shop, toast, and make memories."

Alma Scottsdale will continue sharing construction updates and opening details through its Instagram page as the fall opening approaches.
