Here are the top stories today in Scottsdale:
- The Department of Public Safety is investigating a Sunday shooting around 8:00 p.m. on the Loop 101 near Cactus Road. Two individuals found shot on the side of the freeway were transported to the hospital, and the Loop 101 northbound was closed between Cactus Road and Raintree Drive. The current condition of the individuals is unknown, but DPS has no outstanding suspects. (Arizona's Family)
- Scottsdale Police Department officers responded to a "domestic disturbance involving an armed suspect at a residence near Hayden and McDowell roads," west of Hohokan Elementary School, on Sunday around 6:45 p.m. SPD officers shot the armed suspect and began life-saving efforts, but the suspect died on the scene. No other injuries were reported, and SPD considers it an isolated incident with no other threats to the community. (Free: 12News, Subscription: Daily Independent)
- Basis Tucson North, one of 39 campuses operated by Scottsdale-based Basis Ed, is now the first charter school in Arizona to unionize. Employees voted to join the American Federation of Teachers, "seeking administrative transparency and accountability." With 560 various charter schools serving over 232,000 students in Arizona, this could open the door for additional unionization. (ABC15 Arizona)
