Here are the top stories today in Scottsdale:

  1. Scottsdale Police Department and City Court are warning residents of ongoing scam calls. Scammers are posing as Valley law enforcement agencies, making false claims about outstanding fines or warrants, and insisting that the victim pay immediately. These "convincing, persistent and bold" scammers use a fake caller ID that displays police information, and they request that payments be made via gift cards, prepaid debit cards, or platforms like PayPal, Zelle, Green Dot, Venmo, or Square. If you receive one of these phone calls, hang up and report it to the police non-emergency line at 480-312-5000. (City of Scottsdale)
  2. All Barro's Pizza locations across the Valley are donating up to $40,000 in proceeds from all lunch specials bought in June to the Arizona Cancer Foundation for Children. This local nonprofit organization helps families with "high costs and challenging logistics while caring for their children during cancer treatment." Consider swinging by one of the four Scottsdale locations for a lunch that also helps out families affected by pediatric cancer! (Subscription: Daily Independent)
  3. Babbo Italian Eatery is hosting its first-ever "Baseball for Babbo Day of Giving" event on Thursday, June 15. All eight locations in the Valley will donate 100 percent of profits made on Thursday to the Seena Magowitz Foundation for pancreatic cancer research. The event is a tribute to Ken Pollack, the founder of Babbo Italian Eatery and a passionate baseball fan who lost his battle to pancreatic cancer in 2022. Consider stopping by the location in Scottsdale to enjoy a meal for a good cause! (Babbo Italian Eatery)
