Here are the top stories today in Scottsdale:

  1. In a series of unfortunate events last Sunday, a car crashed into a tree, and that tree fell on top of a Scottsdale fire truck. The accident happened at Shea Boulevard and 96th Street, and several individuals involved were sent to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Two of the individuals treated were Scottsdale firefighters, but they have since been released from the hospital and are at home recovering. (FOX 10 News Phoenix)
  2. According to the county-wide "Point in Time" survey, Scottsdale is "succeeding in helping people find housing." The city utilizes federal funds to help people get off the streets and into temporary housing before finding them permanent homes. This year, 64 unsheltered individuals were identified in Scottsdale, which is nearly half of the 114 individuals identified last year. So, what is Scottsdale's recipe for success? In addition to appropriately allocating federal funds to programs and shelters serving homeless individuals, the city puts a focus on catching residents before they lose their homes and intervening to keep them housed. (East Valley Tribune)
  3. The second annual Pac-12 Conference Baseball Tournament is coming to Scottsdale Stadium on May 23 through May 27! All-tournament or single-day tickets can be purchased online. This year's tournament will switch to pool play and expand to nine teams. Play ball! (City of Scottsdale, Scottsdale Stadium via Facebook)
